Another year, another road trip…or better yet, another super sensational summer road trip.
Maybe it’s not as exciting as i’m trying to make it sound, since i try to take as many road trips as my car lets me throughout the year, but since this time i’m heading to visit a new site…i’m starting to believe that it just may be.
This trip though, is a lot different than my previous trips; the goal is to visit Glacier National Park in Montana. According to Google Maps, i’m expected to drive approx. 29 hours from Houston, TX to Saint Mary Lake, MT. As i’ve mentioned in another posting, i don’t mind driving; so distance is not the difference maker on this trip. The alluded difference is that i’ll be visiting a new part of the USA which i’ve only seen online and in magazines…and unfortunately, with my sidekick – The Daughter not being able to make this trip with me, i’ll be doing this alone.
That being the case, i’ve decided to set the planning of lodging to the side…with only planning my way to and from Glacier National Park, i’m leaving the notion of where to stay up in the air. Roll the dice and have no clue of what my first step will be once i get there. Maybe i’ll be a mountain bum (since there are no beaches in the park) and sleep from my car. Or maybe i’ll just drive around looking for shelter that’s not my car on either side of the park (East Glacier vs West Glacier).
I don’t expect to know what will happen the first night there but i do know that on my way to Glacier National Park, i’ll be spending the night at one of Denver, CO’s Drury Inn and Suites (still have points for free stays to use) and on the way back from Glacier National Park, i’ll be stopping in Overland Park, KS (Kansas City, for those without a clue of where Overland Park is) for a night or two. Then it’ll be a return trip to Houston.
I feel like i’m throwing caution into the wind…and y’know what? I am and who cares? Part of making this trip alone is learning to figure things out as situations present itself. I tend to plan things in a disorganized manner which seems to work, so why not leave things unplanned and let my gut guide me through the unknown.
If all goes well, you’ll see pictures of where my adventure took me…if it doesn’t, then that’s gonna suck. LOL.
Stay tuned for more….
